An Analysis of Works Related to the Interpretation of Qur’anic Narratives: A Survey

Abstract

The Qur’an is a profound miracle that places significant emphasis on narrative discourse, which occupies a central position within the tradition of Qur’anic interpretation and contemporary Qur’anic studies. It contains a wide range of accounts, including narratives of past communities and the lives of the prophets, which have long been examined by both classical and modern scholars. However, existing studies on Qur’anic narratives largely remain descriptive and lack a systematic synthesis and mapping of the methodological approaches employed in these works. This study aims to examine and map the methodological trends used in major scholarly works on Qur’anic narratives. Employing a qualitative, library-based approach with thematic content analysis, the research analyses selected key texts in the field. The findings reveal a diversity of methodological orientations, including exegetical, literary, thematic, and pedagogical approaches, each shaping distinct modes of understanding Qur’anic stories. This study contributes to Qur’anic studies by offering a structured methodological overview that clarifies interpretive trends and highlights the pedagogical and analytical implications of narrative discourse in the Qur’an.
