The muḥaddithīn compiled various narrations covering multiple thematic sections in their works, including the reports of al-Maghāzī and al-Siyar. One of the scholars who transmitted these reports in his writings is Ibn Ḥajar al-‘Asqalānī, particularly in his monumental work Fatḥ al-Bārī. However, Ibn Ḥajar did not explicitly outline his methodology in engaging with these narrations. Therefore, this study aims to analyse and examine the methods employed by Ibn Ḥajar in his treatment of al-Maghāzī and al-Siyar reports, specifically within Fatḥ al-Bārī. The analysis focuses on these narrations in order to identify and synthesise Ibn Ḥajar’s methodological approaches towards them. This research adopts a qualitative design through library-based data collection, employing both inductive and deductive methods. The findings indicate that Ibn Ḥajar applied specific criteria and methodological principles when citing and evaluating al-Maghāzī and al-Siyar narrations in Fatḥ al-Bārī, such as clarifying errors found within the reports and rejecting narrations that contradict authentic hadiths. Overall, this study contributes to a clearer understanding of Ibn Ḥajar’s methodological framework in dealing with al-Maghāzī and al-Siyar narrations, thereby enriching contemporary discussions on hadith historiography.
