Abstract

This study examines the future of the Arabic language in West Africa, focusing on Nigeria as a case study. It explores the historical, religious, political, and social factors contributing to the spread and influence of Arabic in the region. The research highlights the role of Islamic education and the recognition of Arabic by the Nigerian government as key drivers of its prominence. Despite facing challenges such as competition from colonial languages and limited resources for Arabic education, the study emphasizes the resilience of the language through cultural and religious practices. The findings underscore the importance of continued support and development for Arabic education to ensure its sustainability and growth in Nigeria and West Africa.
